Reason #1 Rule #0

Why being the product doesn't work

So you have your over-sized headphones on because you read on social media its ok to hide under them, you have the latest most expensive shoes and attire on the because the person on the cover of your favourite fitness magazine is wearing it you're loaded on supplements by insta-models/bodybuilders.

You walk into the gym with a gung-ho attitude keeping your head down avoiding the staff and over-confident PT slamming the door and banging every piece of equipment you can you rush your workout breaking a sweat trying to avoid people and not being in close proximity of other trianees your actual workout was below average and you are definately not impressed with your body afterwards and on the way home stop at a fast food chain to make yourself happy....that's the REASON

Now if you had walked in after watching an inspiring workout/pep talk on youtube/insta calmed your nerves and composed yourself with a layout or plan of exactly what you were going to accomplish in the gym for that session , brought them good vibes with you as you walked in the door giving a smile back to the gym staff and even letting the PT greet you and converse with you briefly , you workout you own it and leave feeling accomplished you broke a sweat because you actually had the best workout ever , your endorphins are making you higher than high , you found the recipe to success and broke the RULE of being average , mediocre and stereotypical and wish everyday would be like this....

I totally understand the daunting , insecure and rather discerning feeling that comes with going to the gym infact it sometimes still tries to creep up on me. Then i realised it was ok to go to other gym's , make friends, have random conversations with the staff/trainers/trainees , say when it wasn't ok , but ultimately acknowledge when i work out im there for me it's my workout , my goal , so it's up to me how i feel about it and up to me if i need to change and even more so knowing when it may even be me that's the problem and knowing that i can bring the atmosphere (because i totally do lol). Im not there to compete , compare or criticise , im there to be an active part of the culture to encourage and to workout at my pace just like a room full of others, at my convenience not worrying about opinions , societies views and the things that may be beyond my comprehension or out of my control.

So let's be the culture ,be the vibe , make it the gym you wish it was ,be the person you know you are or can be. Hey if it's the gym than change gym's, if it's the people maybe keep smiling could be all that's needed.(remember you wont always get on with everyone that's ok but doesn't mean you shouldn't try anyway)

Be the reason others smile , and don't succumb to rules made by those of influence that ruin the vibe or create awkwardness or discomfort. Break the rule if it means you can be happy and free don't let anyone take your liberty away (just don't break the law)

Hope this makes your next gym experience a valuable and worth while one !

Trust the process , train hard , be consistent , and never stop being you

Peace - Dan
