Back to the Roots
Physical exercise is any bodily activity that enhances or maintains physical fitness and overall health and wellness. It is performed for various reasons, including increasing growth and development, preventing aging, strengthening muscles and the cardiovascular system, honing athletic skills, weight loss or maintenance, and merely enjoyment.
Humans have been exercising since known existence , starting with our more primitive ancestors literally having to exercise (as in run for your life or fight for it) fighting off prehistoric animals or capturing them as a food source (for my savage friends), not to mention foraging for food ( for my green friends).
All the way through time over the years we have found ways to train our bodies to achieve more and be more able or in essence make things easier. So exercise is part of our history while overlooked it has played a vital part in the make up of our society and in the way we do things. Training for war by going through rugged terrain carrying weighted armour seems a little like tough mudder or spartan race doesn't it ....?
We all know this scene , as depicted gladiators trained knowing full well what was ahead they didn't have a choice to skip a session or it was their life !
So where i am going with this ? Why are am i showing you such visualisations ? Well when did fitness , health and nutrition become a fad , when did those doing it become subjective to being objects , sexual icons and most liked on Instagram. When did it stop being about the benefits and more about it being socially acceptable and about the numbers.
Being healthy , functional and having longevity through fitness and well being is a necessity we need our health and our bodies to be functioning above optimal all the time not sometimes , not half the time , not for friday night not for that date or holiday not after winter....now I'm not saying go buy a gym membership or the latest and coolest gym apparel and over marketed supplements but i am saying look at why we trained in the past look at where it has landed us with so much progression how to eat well , stay well and live well with out really trying and still have enough time to enjoy the rest of your life without disease , sickness or pain. Health and Wellness, being fit was never a commodity until we made it one so lets look after ourselves and remember this the next time we workout that you can't buy healthy its your choice and your own responsibility.
